Here and How is the first album by the trio of John Butcher, Dominic Lash, and Emil Karlsen. In fact, it documents the first occasion at which they played as a group. All three musicians have contributed to the Bead catalogue. Butcher's early work includes a duo with Chris Burn (Fonetiks, 1985), and Lash’s a trio with Philipp Wachsmann and Bruno Guastalla (Imaginary String Trio, 2007). Karlsen appears as part of various projects such as Spaces Unfolding (2022), having recently joined Wachsmann in the running of the label.

A complete and satisfying musical experience which, though very accessible will take an age to sink in..It's one of those pieces you can get lost in and keep coming back for more. Recorded in Huddersfield, a mill town I lived in back in the 60's.The days of the legend Frank Worthington,the high rise of the Lonsbrough and Ibbotson flats,Harold Wilson! Yet so much more to the place than that as this terrific album gives testimony to.There will always be something fresh in the air of that valley ! MIKE ANDERSON

Despite the length and variety offered by this release, a few general techniques or patterns are present throughout. Most notable is the interaction between Thomas and Wright, with the former playing in his signature dense and percussive style while the latter provides bursts of gritty notes on the alto.
